Summary of the Gov Obiano's Address in 37 Tweets

1. It is a great honour to be in this distinguished audience today.

2. I'm told that this is the greatest gathering of lawyers and law teachers from all the universities that offer law as a course in Nigeria today in one place.

3. So, on behalf of the Government and people of Anambra State, I welcome you all to the peaceful city of Awka.

4. In Anambra State, we pride ourselves as the Light of the Nation.

5. So, it is not a coincidence that the 50th Anniversary of the National Association of Law Teachers of Nigeria is taking place in Anambra today.

6. Not only has our dear state contributed great minds to the legal education and the practice of law in Nigeria but Anambra is also widely regarded as the safest state in Nigeria today.

7. So, once again, we welcome you with open hearts and arms to Anambra State.

8. Your Excellency, Ladies and gentlemen, I understand that the theme for this historic anniversary edition of your conference is "Law, Security and National Development.

9. I must thank you for choosing such a theme at this moment in our national history.

10. This theme completely captures the lingering  dilemma of our country and the one puzzle we must collectively solve to give Nigeria a fighting chance at national development.

11. Your Excellency, Anambra State stands out today as a shinning example of what a people can achieve if they make unrelenting efforts to place Law and Order and National Security as a precondition for national growth and development.

12. Anyone who is familiar with the Anambra narrative would remember that for decades, our beloved state was held down by lawlessness and insecurity which made all efforts at meaningful development totally impossible.

13. In fact, at a point in time, Anambra could almost pass for a postcard of disorder and insecurity.

14. But our story has changed in just three years.

15. We have made rapid progress from being an address for lawlessness to an oasis of peace and a destination for wise investors.

16. The very fact that this prestigious association chose to host the  Golden Anniversary edition of its Annual Conference in Awka underscores the importance of what we have achieved in securing Anambra State.

17. The idea of holding this conference in this state would have been inconceivable in the past.

18. But we have changed our story, Your Excellency. And we did it with the Law.

19. Your Excellency, if we can do it, then Nigeria can do it even better.

20. That is why this conference gives me a lot of hope.

21.Not only because this is the first time we are hosting this great association in Anambra State but also because I'm told that Your Excellency, the Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a distinguished member of this great association.

22. Ladies and gentlemen, I have a great deal of hope in this association.

23. My reason is simple; after 50 years of running your affairs as a group, I have no doubts whatsoever that whenever you gather like you have gathered here today, you lend new depths to our understanding of the law in Nigeria.

24. Indeed, there is no doubting the immense benefits of the annual national conference of the National Association of Law Teachers of Nigeria.

25. Not does a conference of this magnitude help in sharpening the minds of our law teachers so that they can impart more on the future generation of lawyers but it also helps to promote the supremacy of the law and the course of justice.

26. To that extent therefore, this conference has since made a swift transition from being a mere gathering of law teachers to assume the stature of one our critical efforts in nation building.

27. So, I must thank you all for that.

28. Your Excellency, ladies and gentlemen, I must not end these remarks without noting the various difficulties that stand in the way of efforts to raise the standards of legal education in Nigeria.

29. I know for sure that more often than not, important associations like yours do not necessarily get the help they need and when they need it.

30. I also know that quality law books are not only expensive but difficult to come across.

31. But I am optimistic that these challenges will not always be there.

32. I'd like to particularly commend the Anambra State chapter of this great association for working tirelessly to bring this event to pass.

33. You people have done our beloved state proud.

34. I must also thank the members of the Organizing Committee for doing an incredible job.

35. On this note, I welcome you once again to Anambra State.

36. I wish you a happy stay as you enjoy the freedom, the hospitality and the peace of mind that Anambra is known for.

37. God bless Anambra State. God bless Nigeria

Thank you
