Tension, restlessness grip Ikorodu residents over unchecked Badoo killings

Residents woke up to yet another attack on Wednesday morning.
Tension and concerns for safety have risen among residents of communities under the Ikorodu area of Lagos due to unabated attacks on households by notorious cult group Badoo.
Residents of Odogunyan Olopomeji woke up to yet another sad news on Wednesday morning that the group had attacked a family of five – crushing a man, his wife and three children with grinding stone.
While the couple and one of the children were confirmed dead, two were said to have been rushed to the hospital.
‘We don’t know what to do anymore,’ a resident, simply identified as Sodiq, told Newsroom Nigeria on Wednesday. ‘Help is not coming.’
‘We are quite safe in my area in Elepe because most houses here have burglary, the houses that mostly get attacked don’t have,’ he told us.
‘No security, the vigilante groups are not enough.’
While the trademarks of the Badoo group’s attacks on residents of Ikorodu are with grinding stones and mortar, the residents don’t know the exact motive of their attackers.
‘We don’t know exactly what their aim is, what they want to achieve. They rarely steal,’ Sodiq, a father of one, added.
‘Ambode should please, look into the security of our community for God’s sake. We find it hard to close our eyes to sleep.’
While Ambode’s administration has made impressive strides in securing Lagos State in his first years as governor, Ikorodu and it’s environs have never really broken from the shackles of criminal activities.
Hopefully, the state government will heed the calls of hapless residents of the endangered communities.
